Pack In, Pack Out

No Garbage Left Behind!

Starting next week, our school is putting a simple habit into action: Pack In, Pack Out. Anything that comes to school or is received here will also head home. Leftovers, wrappers, fruit peels, soiled napkins, and hot lunch containers will all return in your child’s lunch kit. Nothing stays behind.

Once students settle into the rhythm, lunches start to feel lighter and bags stay organized. They begin to notice which snacks travel well and which containers make the best trips home. A little planning turns into a smart habit that makes each lunch a round trip adventure.

Here are a few ways to make it easy and fun:

  • Pack with a plan: A quick thought about where waste will go keeps things running smoothly
  • Bring your own tools: Hot lunches will no longer include cutlery, so a reusable set tucked into a bag becomes second nature
  • Think reusable: A small container or zip-top bag gives fruit peels, leftovers, and scraps a proper ride home

Every lunch makes the round trip with Pack In, Pack Out. It is simple, sustainable, and quietly powerful. Students notice what they bring, make choices that create less waste, and see how small actions can make a big difference at school.

By the end of September, once the hot lunch program begins, we will share tips on sorting waste so students learn not only how to reduce garbage, but also how to handle it in ways that create less landfill waste. Pack In, Pack Out becomes more than a habit. It is a skill, a choice, and a chance to turn everyday snack and lunches into an easy win for the planet.
