School front parking lot

We’re ringing in the new school year the Chinese-inspired way, with a lion dance, BBQ, fresh wheel cakes, bubble tea, games, crafts and plenty of free fun for the whole family. Join us this Friday as we take over the front parking lot for our annual Back to School Party.
a little luck to start the year

Get ready for a lively traditional Chinese lion dance performance by Vancouver Lion Dance Groups to set the stage for a fun-filled afternoon. It’s an exciting and festive way to welcome the new school year, with a special chance for families to get up close, meet the lion and capture a photo together before it heads off to its next adventure!
Come hungry
M&M Food Market is back with their popular burgers and hot dogs. BBQ pre-orders will open through MunchaLunch when Term 1 hot lunch ordering opens on Tuesday, September 15. Just look for the BBQ menu tab and get your order sorted right away. Pre-ordering means you can skip the ticket line and won’t need to have as much cash on hand at the event.

IMPORTANT: BBQ pre-orders close at midnight on Wednesday, September 16. Get your order paid for before then and you’ll automatically be entered into a draw for a LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Panda Family Set!

Want to add something sweet and refreshing? Mama Chu’s Wheel Cakes will be cooking these toasted treats with red bean, custard and Oreo fillings for $2 each. Milk tea with bubbles will also be available for $5 each.
There will be limited cash sales during the event, so if you miss the pre-order deadline, bring cash. Just remember that quantities may run out. Our usual concession will also be open with drinks, snacks and freezies for sale.
All activities are FREE! If you’d like to grab a burger, hot dog, wheel cake, bubble tea or something from the concession, bring some cash.
Now for the fun!

Everyone loves a wheel spin, so let the kids take a turn at Spin to Win, our giant prize wheel where every spin wins a little prize. It’s completely free, because what’s more fun than spinning a giant wheel just because you can?

Kids can try badminton, learn to play jianzi, the traditional Chinese feather shuttlecock game, and test their steady hands with a game of pick-up sticks, where the challenge is to remove a stick without disturbing the others.
Make, play and discover

With the Mid-Autumn Festival around the corner, kids can get into the spirit of the occasion by using a traditional-style push mould to press a pretend moon cake out of Playdoh, or try creating a little dragon puppet.

The Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning will be bringing some classic Chinese puppets and inviting kids to see these colourful traditional toys up close and learn a little about their playful place in Chinese culture.

Need a quick nibble? Stop by our free food-tasting station for a bite-sized Chinese snack before heading off to explore your next activity.
Check out the new spirit wear

By now you’ve probably heard about our new spirit wear vendor. If you’re curious about the printing, styles or sizing, we’ll have lots of samples for families to check out before ordering opens on Monday, September 21.
Eat, chat and let us clean up
Our dining area will be set up in its usual spot in the middle of the parking lot, giving families a place to sit down, eat and catch up with friends.
Cleanup is easy: just leave it all on the table at the disposal station. Think of it like a food court tray drop-off. Our volunteers will take care of all the sorting, so you don’t need to do a thing!

Come for the food, stay for the fun, and help us give the new school year a proper Brantford kickoff. See you Friday!
